Our Ofsted report
Tiddlywinks Preschool was last Ofsted inspected in February 2009 and received a very favourable report. Here are some of the key points of that report:
“Staff have a good understanding of the procedures to follow with any child protection concerns, which ensures children’s welfare is safeguarded. Good security procedures are in place to ensure only authorised personnel can enter the building. Effective recruitment procedures ensure staff are suitable to work with children and on-going suitability is checked at annual appraisals.”
“Positive partnerships with parents are established. Regular assessments detailing children’s progress and their next steps in learning are shared with parents including opportunities for parents to discuss their child’s development further at the annual parent meetings. Information about pre-school practice is shared verbally and through the notice board, along with a policy file that is easily accessible. Parents are warmly welcomed into the setting and feedback from parents about pre-school practice is positive.”
“Children enjoy a healthy, nutritious diet as they snack on fresh fruit and vegetables which they choose for themselves. Staff work in consultation with parents to ensure all dietary needs are met as some children bring packed lunches to the lunch club.”
“They have opportunities for daily exercise in the fresh air and in the large hall. Activities are often taken outside, offering the children freedom and space to explore.”
“All children enjoy their play and happily share resources, taking turns whilst in the home corner. Staff constantly talk to children to help their development of language.”
“Children are encouraged to talk about the world around them as they discuss the snow outside and what clothes they would need to wear. A wealth of outdoor activities helps them to observe, looking at similarities and differences of their environment. They explore road signs, shapes of everyday items, colours of cars and experience the smell of fresh bread as they visit the supermarket bakery. They develop an understanding of technology as they play with tills and mobile phones in the role play area or use various programmes on the laptop.”
“Overall the quality of the provision is good. Pre-school staff have a good understanding of children’s individual needs and work closely with parents to ensure their needs are met, creating inclusive practice. Children are confident, sociable and happy and make generally good progress in their learning and development. The management team have implemented some changes within practice. They have identified further areas for improvement with regard to the provision and are proceeding to put these changes in place.”
